Afghan Women Network calls on participants of Doha peace talks, specifically the Taliban Movement, to commit to an immediate ceasefire to show good will and commitment to peace in Afghanistan.
Afghan Women Network, on behalf of its members across the country, condemns recent air raids and terror attacks that have caused loss of lives and injuries to school children, among others in recent days.
We call on all parties involved in the conflict to do everything in their power to respect the sanctity of human life, as instructed in our holy religion and in international humanitarian laws.
We welcome and support the participation of women as well as religious minorities in intra- Afghan dialogue in Doha. We believe that Afghanistan is home to all of its citizens and we trust that strengthening diversity can increase ownership, enrich dialogue and bring on table pains and healing and aspiration for sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
Once ceasefire is agreed upon, the intra-Afghan dialogue should be used as an opportunity to constructively discuss the ways in which the women and men of Afghanistan can work together to address some of consistent challenges such as insecurity, corruption, poverty where 54% of the nation is living under the poverty line. As Afghans, we must learn from our history and prioritize our national interest including economic growth, rule of law, provision of good governance.
International force withdrawal is finally looks to realize as each country have their own priority, however our economic laydown is deep, we need to ensure that women and men are working together for rebuilding Afghanistan’s economic, rule of law and governance. War and militarized approaches cannot win us security, protection, rule of law and economic growth.
At the end Afghan Women Network (AWN) thanks all facilitators of Intra-Afghan dialogue but believe that it is down to Afghans to resolve the issues facing them and build their country.
