Dr. Najia Tareq was born in Kabul. She obtained her baccalaureate certificate from Afshar high school and completed her MD in Kabul Medical Institute, having obtained her Obstetrics/Gynecology postgraduate degree from the Department of Continued Medical Education & Post Graduation of the Ministry of Public Health in 1998. In 2010, she earned her Master’s degree from the University of Washington State on Public Policy and Administration through the Ministry of Higher Education program. Also, in 2011 she got extensive degree certificate in public management from Rome Tor Vergata University, Italy .  

Tareq joined in mid of 2001 with Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (CHA) national NGO as a general trainer in Herat province. And carry out training for health services providers. By 2001, she was appointed as the second call doctors in Rabia Balkh Hospital (RBH) which is the only national women’s complex / teaching public hospital in Afghanistan. She was achieved her Obstetrics/Gynecology Specialty Trainer in 2003.  From 2004 through 2012, Dr. Tareq served as the director of RBH, working on establishment of hospital executive board, presenting hospital vision, goals and theory of change linked to institution commitments within the Strategic Plan and Action Plan and identifying hospital intervention packages, implementation strategies and organizational arrangements needed to achieve results. Building hospital existing programming and leadership, developed human resource policy. From 2012 until Jan. 2017 worked as a health care service provision deputy minister in Ministry of Public Health. Provide strategic leadership and Senior Management oversight of the design, operation and funding of ministry in Afghanistan. Lead the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring that the strategy implementation is meeting desired goals and objectives and that the Health system is appropriately structured, financially viable and appropriately resourced and compliant with Government and Health policies. Represent Ministry of Public Health and the National Office externally as deemed appropriate including with host government representatives, donors, partners and other Partnership offices. She Lead VAW treatment protocol committee at ministry of public health which currently use in all health facilities at the national level. She was Active Member of Violence against Women Eliminating High Commission (Ministry of Women Affairs (MoW)). This commission provided technical advice about VAW issue for policy makers, and guidance as a resource for MoW senior management and supervised provincial EVAW Committees. Also, Dr. Tareq was Member of Gender High Council. That promotes gender equality and enhance girls’ and women’s safety and empowerment in all government programs. Also, promote the rule of law at the national levels and ensure equal access to justice for all. In addition, she was member of GBV working group that chair by UNFPA and HRIC. She Attained in different GBV training such Gender training provide by support of CHA NGO in Pakistan, Swedish Committee gender training, Alert supported by AWEC and Medica –Afghanistan NGO gender training in India. Dr. Tareq revised GBV training guide line of Medica – Afghanistan organization and attained in their GBV training workshop to train Medical staff as a trainer. From Dec.2017 to March. 2018 work as Health advisor in Medica- Afghanistan To serves as the primary source of technical support for health programs. And also involved in a range of cross-sectorial and other initiatives. Then, started work in Monitoring /Evaluation Specialist and Public Relation Affairs from March 2018 – December 2018 in Medica Afghanistan NGO Responsible for project progress and the M&E system. Provide technical support for project effective implementation provide through all project cycle management for team. Currently, work as a Project Manager from September 2019 – November 2020 in Afghan Women Education.Center (AWEC) NGO, Assist with the program development and fund raising with special focus on women’s issues and concerns related to gender in Afghan society and manage all project activities and financial resource.
